Laurel Collective and Montage Populaire – March 24th
Laurel Collective are an experimental pop outfit from London. Having signed with the Domino Records offshoot, Double Six, in their infancy, the band have since gone on to mesmerize audiences on both sides of the Atlantic with their bedazzling repertoire of off-kilter hits.
Montage Populaire are an experimental pop/electronic/indie band based in Southampton, UK. The band’s early self-produced demo ‘Mon Pop’ made no.67 in Artrocker’s records of 2009, they’ve toured France & Ireland, received continued airplay on NME radio, made the final 11 bands in the final of the Q Magazine/Glastonbury EMT competition, had two demos licensed by Dorothy Perkins for fashion campaign videos, and their ‘Reject Reinstall’, made no.3 on Gill Mills’ (NME) ‘Best Of Myspace’. Oakford Social Club Associated Festival : Beacons 2012 – First Acts Announced – New Site
We’re really excited to see Rodney Smith aka Roots Manuva on the Beacons line-up this year. Following the release of last year’s 4everrevolution – his most powerful work since Run Come Save Me – the UK hip-hop legend will be bringing his innovative sound to the Yorkshire countryside this summer. And one of UK hip-hop’s rising stars will also be playing. The Mercury Music Prize-nominated Ghostpoet will be laying down his laconic beats and baritone drawl and you’ll get the chance to see why Factory Floor have made a fan of Joy Division / New Order’s Stephen Morris and had the likes of Pitchfork and Quietus touting them for bigger things.
Beacons is a three-day, four-night festival and for a short period, tickets are available at just £60 for the weekend, including camping (£55 for students and Regulars Cards holders). A limited number of early bird weekend tickets are available now. Tickets will be available to purchase from the Beacons Festival website, HMV, Seetickets, Gigantic, Leedstickets.com, Jumbo Records and Crash Records.

Shoot For The King and Kinky Boot Beasts – live on Wednesday 29th February
Shoot For The King are four local young lads who we think could well be set for big things in the future. The band initially started as a three-piece back in 2010, and already have two great recordings under their belts with their self titled album and an EP. They make music that fits in somewhere between The Shins and Eels. Each song soars melodically, but with a louche vocal.

Anti-Valentines Special : Darker My Love
BBC Introducing Live presents Sister Gracie, Ziffs Law and Silvatone – Wednesday 15th February
BBC Berkshire presents the best in up and coming live acts from Reading and beyond. Tonight an Oakford favourite, Sister Gracie headlines proceedings, recently described by The Fly as “Their live sound is decidedly more consistent than their scatter-gun approach to recorded influences, the laptop synths and riff-o-batics filling out the melodrama of rake-thin Max Walker’s full-bellied vocals.”

Popular presents Look, Stranger! – January 28th
In their own words Look, Stranger! are London’s premier space-age bachelor pad band. Make of that what you will but know that they count publications like The Guardian and The Quietus as fans. In fact the Guardian went as far as to say they’re “the new Wild Beasts… Kasabian fans will hate it”. Perfect then.
